Serving Jury Duty and having to find lunch spots is hard unless there is a place like Happy Dogs. Super friendly, super clean, outdoor patio, large portions all describe this place. No public restrooms but that is ok. Plenty of shade and lots of good food to be had. Also...don't forget to ask for some kim chee on the side of that is your thing...home made...delish.

I'm not happy with Happy Dogs today. Cashier made up her own tax rate and charge more than she supposed to. I pointed it out and she insisted. I didn't have time to argue so I paid and left. But be forewarned - they make up numbers. We do not have a 12% tax rate in Los Angeles

I was in the area and I was hungry (when am I not hungry?) and this place caught my eye when I walked past it. I ordered the small chicken teriyaki bowl, even though my belly was telling me to get the pastrami sandwich and fries, sofar, I'm digging this quaint little food shack. LA used to have so many of these places, but development and gentrification has made these places less common. I'm reminded of Molly's on Vine and Selma. Molly's was a little Korean burger joint, much like Happy Dogs. The rumor is, after a lengthy legal battle, the developer paid Molly's a substantial sum (over a million) and the lot where it stood is now a chichi commercial building. Anyway, I'm currently waiting for my food, and it's ready...
The house kimchi is super tasty. I wish they gave me a lot more (but it's totally a reasonable amount). The teriyaki is a very good portion for a small. The veggies are a nice touch, and they aren't frozen. I'm curious to try the burgers, dogs, pastrami, and the bulgogi. Over all, it's a great little bargain joint where your money goes to a nice family and the food is good and affordable. What more could you want? -

--Atmosphere, Service & Parking--
This is a cool little stand type of place selling some good eats. If you're looking for a nice place this isn't it. It's a food stand with some decent food. They have a 7 or so tables located next to them in a shaded eating area to eat at if there's room, and if there isn't? Be on your way from wherever you came from. This is a good grab and go place. Are you visiting the courts across the street or working around the area? This would fit the bill for a quick bite.
The people are friendly and food is served in a timely manner. If you're not within walking distance, park somewhere on Van Nuys and its various streets nearby and walk on over.
---Food, Drinks, & Prices---
There's a good range from breakfast items to lunch. Hot cakes, egg and bacon plates, melts and sandwiches, a breakfast burrito or two, a couple omelets, burgers, hot dogs, teriyaki bowls (beef and chicken versions), a soup or two, and salads (green, chicken, tuna, chef etc) and sides like onion rings, chili fries and more.
Large beef & chicken teriyaki bowl ($7.57 w/tax) : Nicely cooked beef and chicken with some veggies (broccoli, carrots, and cabbage), served over rice with a house made teriyaki sauce. This was huge and could definitely be split into two meals.
Pastrami: Served warm on a hoagie style bread. Decent amount of meat, served with mustard and pickles. About a 6'inch sandwich or so. Good!
Prices seem great and everything is pretty much in the $4-11 range. -

Been coming here years and cannot say I have ever been disappointed! Fast delicious and super affordable. Tiny little spot in Van Nuys that serves a good variety of different food from cheeseburgers to chicken or beef bowls. I do recommend a burger combo for about 8 bucks.
